In 2017, Tani, his parents, and his older brother fled from Nigeria to New York City. This move was largely forced due to the terrorist organization Boko Haram. Being Christians, Tani’s family was fearful of violent persecution from the terrorist group. As such, the family attempted to seek asylum in the United States.
